Hephzibah Rendle-Short is a visual artist who is currently undertaking a PhD by practice to research the operation of painting from observation. She starts with Freudʼs claim that when we observe something in the world we compare it with a hallucination in the mind: we re-find it. Her project is an interrogation of this claim employing fiction: Drawing the diagram/me/ in pursuit of the lost object

At a yet undetermined date the house in which H grew up was cut in half, put on the back of a semitrailer and moved from its plot of land out of the city. The empty space left by its removal forms the conceptual possibility for the L O A – once an archive, now a network of forms - which the project aims to generate as an operation of retrieval to reconstruct the absent house. A shift from archive to network occurred some time into the project allowing for a certain migration across and between elements.

The L O A comprises a body of art objects, including drawings, graphic diagrams, video diagrams, paintings and S T Oʼs (strange transitional objects), creative textual forms, including Hot Pink (a box-set of seven video manuals), Indirections (a self published book), and a portfolio set of fictional writings. These items can be found in the L O A's e-repository.
